The idea of wordless picture books as being too easy is missing the bigger picture

Updated: Jul 19, 2020

We've all heard the well known quote about #imagination from Albert Einstein:

Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

But why is it important? And more importantly, how do we foster this ability in our kids?

Have you ever caught yourself talking to your kids as if they're students instead of humans. Don't get me wrong I think it's great to learn and accumulate knowledge.

But imagination is more about connecting the dots than acquiring facts. About seeing things in a new way or in a new arrangement.

Wordless picture books help kids do just that. With no words for guidance, they have to figure out the story, or even better make up their own! They do this by using only the illustrations and their imagination. This develops and strengthens their imagination muscles.

Imagination is part of the very big picture. It will be the strength of our imaginations that helps us recreate our world.
